The 4 Essentials B's

The 4 Essentials B's

The holidays are meant to be a time of joy, family, and celebration—but if you’re a new mama, it can often feel like a minefield of awkward situations, overbearing relatives, and impossible expectations.

The stress is real.

Between family gatherings, church services, dinner parties, and even simple errands like shopping for gifts, you’re trying to navigate a world that doesn’t always feel designed for breastfeeding mamas.

I did the math, and from today (11/24) until New Year's, I’ll have 266 nursing sessions, which adds up to around 7,980 minutes of nursing... That’s a lot of time. Heck, even Jessica Alba’s had to sneak in a feed in a Target dressing room!

You're not alone.

These moments are tough, and with a few tools, you can not only survive the chaos of the holiday season but actually enjoy it.

Here are 4 B's to help you stay calm, collected, and fully present during this highly emotional, sometimes overwhelming time of year:

1. Breathwork – A Secret Weapon for Calm

Breath work is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to calm your nervous system and refocus when everything around you feels chaotic.

The 4-7-8 Breathing Exercise is simple, quick, and requires no equipment—perfect for doing anywhere. I made this video this weekend.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Close your mouth and inhale quietly through your nose for a count of 4.
  2. Hold your breath for a count of 7.
  3. Exhale completely through your mouth, making a whoosh sound for a count of 8.

Repeat 4 times.

This simple technique can help clear your mind, relax your body, and reset your emotions. It’s a mindful practice that brings you back to the present moment—because, let’s face it, new motherhood is a highly emotional time, and your ability to stay centered will help you show up for your baby and yourself.

2. Breaks – The Best Treat for Yourself

Let’s talk about treats, again!

In the middle of the holiday whirlwind, you rarely take time for yourself. But as Gretchen Rubin writes, treats are essential for making life feel more joyful, especially during stressful times. Now, we’re not talking about a shopping spree (although, we’re not judging if that’s your thing). Instead, we’re talking about giving yourself the gift of rest or sitting down to do nothing (without a baby, child or your iPhone).

We get it—there's no shortage of things to do, but resting is non-negotiable. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes while your baby naps, give yourself permission to rest. Taking that time to recharge helps you stay emotionally resilient, more present for your baby, and ready to embrace the joy that the season has to offer.

Taking care of yourself isn't a luxury—it’s a necessity, especially as a new mama trying to juggle the holidays.

3. Compassionate Boundaries – Protect Your Peace

Setting boundaries is essential to making it through the holiday season without burning out. As new moms, we’re often asked to attend every family gathering, take on additional responsibilities, or participate in holiday traditions that might feel overwhelming. It’s okay to say no, to ask for support, and to prioritize your needs.

Think about what feels right for you. Maybe you need to skip one of the big family parties or leave early to get some quiet time with your baby. Whatever it is, setting boundaries allows you to navigate these emotionally charged moments with more peace and less stress. And remember: you are allowed to protect your emotional and physical space so that you can show up for your family in a way that feels good for you.

4. A Go-To Outfit for Feeding Anywhere with Confidence

When you’re a new mama, getting dressed for the day is already a challenge. Add breastfeeding to the mix, and suddenly your wardrobe feels less like an asset and more like a liability. You don’t want to spend your entire day figuring out how to nurse your baby discreetly in that tight dress, or pulling at your shirt every time they need to latch.

This is where having a go-to outfit that makes you feel confident and allows you to feed with ease is a game-changer. Whether you're heading to a church service or catching up with friends over dinner, having something that works for breastfeeding (without sacrificing style) means you won’t have to think twice when your baby needs to eat. A versatile, easy-to-feed-in piece is like a holiday survival kit for your wardrobe, and it allows you to take on the world (or at least your social calendar) with less stress and more confidence.

We offer 2 amazing outfits that are easy, cute go-to nursing outfits with style.
