A Reflection on Transformation 🦋

2019 -> 2024

As we stand here going into our 5th year (a huge business milestone) we are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy to you, mama.

Your unwavering love and support has been the cornerstone of our transformation, enabling us to evolve and flourish in ways we had only dreamed of.

From our inception, the vision was clear: to nurture and support mamas.

It was around this time in 2019, we were just starting to ship the first Cocoons to mamas around the world (2 years after we started working on designing the Cocoon). I was 2 weeks postpartum, elated and exhausted (hello postpartum! Chasing a 2 year old and an entrepreneurial dream!)

In those early days, it was just the 2 of us. Emily who lived in Los Angeles, would drive 3 hours to our factory to pick up the knitted Cocoons and bring them back to Ojai so we could pack and ship them together. It was truly a labor of love, and one that expanded our hearts in ways we never expected.

We named our nursing cover the "Cocoon" to honor the transformative journey of motherhood. 

Like the ethereal space a caterpillar occupies before it emerges as butterfly, nursing is a mother and child's cocoon phase—warm, intimate, and transformative. It’s more than physical nourishment — it's a time of emotional and spiritual metamorphosis. 

Our "Cocoon" symbolizes this sacred space of growth and connection, celebrating the deep bond that forms in these quiet, nurturing moments. 

And in a way, it represents our journey as We are Amma founders, too.

Since 2019, we’ve witnessed incredible growth within this community of mamas. We’ve felt your support from states and countries away, cried as we’ve read your stories about the frustration that comes with breastfeeding, and rejoiced as we’ve seen the Cocoon completely change how you nurse in the world! (You've got this, mama!)

And thanks to your belief in us, we've been able to turn this vision into a tangible reality. Your support has been instrumental in allowing us to grow into a company that hires and supports mamas, we now have an Amma HQ in downtown Ojai where our mamas pack each order with love and perfection and can also pick up their kids from school. Balance and self-care are a requirement.  

As Cocoon mama, Carli N. summed up the thoughts of so many of us when she wrote that her Cocoon makes her feel “safe, confident and comfortable.”

That space, Mama, is where transformation takes place.
